The Stanford Geospatial Center (SGC) is a division of the Stanford University Libraries whose mission is to provide geospatial services and resources in support of research and education. In December 2012, SGC began collecting data on mass shooting incidents in the United States. The center felt that additional information was needed in order to better understand this phenomenon.

The purpose of this project is to provide data about mass shootings in the United States in order to help all interested parties visualize and analyze mass shootings that have happened over the past few decades.  It is hoped that in doing so it will be easier to look for patterns that will lead to effective solutions to prevent further tragedies from occurring.

About

These data have been collected from many different public sources.   This is a work in progress and will become more complete as time goes on in terms of the number of incidents recorded and the full information about each event.  The focus of these data is on the United States between 1966 and 2014.

Our plan is to add policy resources and government information to the site in the coming weeks.
